VOTE GAZA!!

According to Mr Blaise Bellville of Platform "The whole ‘Gaza / Gully’ thang is basically Vybz Kartel warring with Mavado – each ‘DJ’ claims to be tougher than the other (boys will be boys), and the war (where ‘diss’ tunes are the weapons) has seemingly divided hardcore dancehall fans across the world… Which I don’t really understand because Vybz Kartel is clearly way way way harder."

DEAD RAP MAGAZINES

When I was younger, if a friend on mine was going for a trip to the states, I'd give them a list of records and mix-tapes to bring me back, but all I ever got was magazines, and I can't thank them enough for not picking me up a doo-wop tape for me and instead getting some obscure magazine that I hadn't heard of. Rap magazines in the early to mid 90's were in abundance. Alot were terrible, but I didn't care, I'd read every liner note in that motherfucker till it fell apart. Looking back, I remember how impressed I was at the thinner format that American magazines came in, as opposed to the standard British size.
http://www.complex.com have taken the time to remind us of those magazines that have since burnt out. There is a fair few magazines missing from their list, but they are on point with the scans.

Natural Elements Mixtape Pt.1

'Y'all look the same like Aaron Hall and R. Kelly'

"Before materializing as an official group, the Natural Elements were originally conceived as a group of solo artists brought together in 1993 under the tutelage of producer Charlemagne. This initial grouping, whose members were initially signed to Fortress Records, included members Mr. Voodoo, L-Swift, KA, G-Blass, Howie Smalls and the InTimidator. By 1995, however, membership slimmed to include only Mr. Voodoo, L-Swift and the newly-added A-Butta.
The trio's countless appearances on the NYC freestyle and mixtape circuits culminated with a record deal on the Tommy Boy Black sublabel and the release of the single "2 Tons" in 1999. Although the highly-anticipated NE album was completed, problems with Tommy Boy shelved the project and the album never saw the light of day." from discog.net

Helly Hanson...

Was a key winter coat choice at schools across Liverpool and the North
West. Mine was a reversable black and White bubble ski jacket, I
bought it in Wade Smith (Liverpool's sportswear Mecca) mid summer and
tried it on every day waiting patiently for September to come so I
could rock it to Range High School.

Here Da Brat teams classic fisherman style with matching trousers and
a white Air Force 1. Strong look.
Fly indeed.

Wave side burns + baby hair =

Ginuwine.

Bruce Weber

Another big hitter in the 90s photography game was Bruce Weber. He also worked a lot in black and white, shooting celebrities and major advertising campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Versace and Calvin Klein.

Found this amazing Revlon commercial featuring Cindy Crawford shot by Weber in 1992 "Shake It!"

Wicked Game

Chris Isaak's 1991 "Wicked Game" video shot by Herb Ritts featuring Helena Christensen writhing around on the beach. Has to be one of my all time favs!
